When I started editing books in earnest in 2021, I received a lot of manuscripts in the non-fiction genre. I love fiction, and have been reading it my whole life, but I was intrigued by the true stories that arrived in my inbox.

I have a certain dislike for umbrellas. I don’t know when it started, but for at least as long as I’ve been an adult, I’ve avoided using them.

When I started a new job several years ago, I was introduced to Eileen, with whom I’d be working closely. I was meant to take some of the workload off her shoulders as a whole slew of new responsibilities had been added to her plate. Eileen was a kind, organized and no-nonsense person in her early sixties. Additionally, she was very good at her job. We got along really well right from the start.
#1 Origin Story
For much of my life I was told I was “too sensitive.” I understood right from the beginning that such a descriptor was not a compliment. The expressions on people’s faces, for one, made it clear. The expectations placed on me further solidified my understanding.
