Meanwhile, financial advisors may be wondering how to best serve their clients as well as continue to grow their businesses. It is for these people that this book was written. Top-producing financial advisor Daniel Collison uses his expertise in the field to help other advisors reach the heights of their profession.

Daniel polled advisors across North America to find out what mattered most to them. Their responses included marketing their services, increasing revenue and profits, prospecting and generating leads, finding the right clients, and effectively implementing processes and systems.

Based on these responses—and because he had an interest in sharing the trials and tribulations he had experienced throughout his career—Daniel wrote Building Bigger and Better: Growth Strategies of Top-Producing Financial Advisors. His goal was to impart his knowledge of the industry and show advisors how they can set themselves apart to become top producers.

At the core, Daniel emphasizes passion, and I wholeheartedly agree with him on this point. Passion is one of the main building blocks to true success. According to Daniel, when it comes to the field of financial advising, passion is what separates those who do well from those who thrive. But this emotion is not something that can be taught. You must possess it naturally; the rest can be learned from there.

In Building Bigger & Better, Daniel emphasizes three major approaches to becoming a top-producing financial advisor:

•       A confident mindset

•       A confident business structure

•       A confident approach to growth

Throughout the book, Daniel explains in a clear and simple manner how advisors can transform their businesses and help their clients get the best advice possible. Happy clients will translate to thriving advisors. Daniel also includes several anecdotes to help demonstrate what to avoid and what must be done in the pursuit of excellence.

Though I am not a financial advisor, I had the opportunity to learn a bit about the business when I edited this book. It can be quite the task to work in an area that you are not familiar with, but I found this a welcome challenge because it allowed me to extend my knowledge base. This project also allowed Daniel to get feedback from an outside perspective. An advantage to having an editor who is not from the same industry as the author is they can point out areas in which the book can get bogged down by too much jargon or too many complicated concepts.

This self-help business book was a pleasure to work on because the author had a strong sense of what he wanted to say, and his structure was clear and solid. He is also very clearly an expert in his field as he wrote with great authority, and he currently runs a successful coaching business.
